Playtech’s William Hill Stocks

The news and rumors concerning William Hill’s intention to buy out the 29% shares that belong to Playtech in the online joint venture of William Hill, William Hill Online (WHO) have some truth in them as was stated by both companies. Such move would enable the British gambling operator to take full control of the online division of William Hill.

The gambling operator has until the month of November to call the option officially. According to experts, William Hill is going to make an offer that will be range from three-hundred million USD and five-hundred million USD. A bank will be appointed by William Hill and another by Playtech in order to give an estimation of the price. A 3rd party will interfere if the gap between the two evaluations is big.

There is more than one reason for William Hill to take over Playtech’s shares. Beside the fact that such takeover would enable it to have total control of the online venture as mentioned above, it would also end the very turbulence-filled relation it has with Playtech. For instance, William Hill has announced that it is trying to end Playtech’s ability to use its right to veto any acquisitions.

Also, William Hill has been trying to get Playtech to sign a commitment that would prevent it from working with Ladbrokes since Ladbrokes is the primary rival of William Hill in the United Kingdom. The turbulence continued as William Hill has applied earlier this year for an injunction in order to prevent Playtech from selling its WHO shares.

  1. This has been an ongoing saga. In my honest opinion, since I am a William Hill Online customer, I think William Hill is going to buy out Playtech’s shares. WHO is very successful and William Hill will not let anything stand in its way to gain total control of the venture. As a customer, I just want the venture to retain the same quality if that happens.

  2. I agree Punter240, a lot of experts are expecting that William Hill will exercise its buyout clause so it can have total control over the venture. I also hope that William Hill manages to retain the same level of quality and service at WHO following the buyout.
